I guess I was a latecomer to computing as I didn't buy my first computer until I was 22, it was a crappy old Atari ST 520 with a single sided floppy and no hard drive. The guy who sold it to me really stitched me up. It wasn't long before I needed to install a double sided floppy disk drive in order to run most of the software, although when I say "install" I use this term very loosely as installing involved butchering the previous slot with a hacksaw in order to fit the new drive. The only redeeming quality about this computer was that it ran Dungeon Master and Populous, two games that kept me occupied for months.
Not long after I decided it was time to get a decent machine, and the choice was either an Amiga 600 or 1200. I didn't even consider a PC as my image of them was boring wordprocessors and everyone I knew at that time had an Amiga. So with an immaculate credit rating I walked into Rumbelows empty handed and walked out with a brand spanking new Amiga 600. i brought it home and slapped in one of the only two amiga disks I had which were demos from Amiga Action Magazine (remember it ?). The first one was Cannon Fodder a classic from Sensible Software and the other Syndicate from Bullfrog. I couldn't get over the flash graphics, "Ahhh" I thought "This is more like it, a decent computer". I used that 600 constantly playing such classics as Lure of the Temptress, Syndicate, Cannon Fodder, The Settlers, Dune II, and let's not forget the greatest football game ever written Sensible Soccer. I know it sounds sad or even weird but I really loved that computer, it did everything I wanted and if it couldn't I could forgive it. I sold my 600 about 3 years ago in order to fund the purchase of a PC for College purposes and it felt like I sold a part of me, I don't know who came up with the nickname "Everybody's Girlfriend" but whoever did got it spot on.
